Kashiwanoha International Village (KIV)

The Graduate School of Frontier Sciences (GSFS) provides a furnished housing facility at the Kashiwanoha International Village (KIV – 14Fl. Park Axis Kashiwanoha) located in front of Kashiwanoha Campus Station. This housing facility is open for international students, researchers, and some Japanese students as well.

Japanese culture-specific customs such as deposits (shiki-kin), key money (reikin), and the guarantor system are unnecessary to live in KIV, therefore you can start new life in Japan smoothly.

 

Applications for Female Share Type room

Application is due by October 23, 2017

Female share type room availability:  1 room is available from November 1, 2017

 

Applications for Common Type room

Application is due by October 31, 2017

Common type room availability:        1 room is available from November 28, 2017

 

Applications for Studio Type rooms

Application is due by November 15, 2017

Studio type room availability :            1 room is available from December 19, 2017 to January 31, 2018

 

Applications are due by the 1st of the month two months prior to the month you wish to move in.

Studio type room availability: 1 room is available from November 24, 2017
1 room is available from November 29, 2017
1 room is available from February 16, 2018
 2 rooms are available from mid to late March 2018

1.KIV- General description

KIV has three types of rooms, Share house type, Common type, and Studio type. There are total of 41 rooms. Shared facilities are the kitchen, living and dining room, gender-segregated shower room, and the laundry room. The kitchen is equipped with a rice cooker, microwave, and other kitchenware. Each room has a desk, a chair, and a bed.

From the bus stop in front of KIV to Kashiwa campus, it takes about 10 minutes by the ‘Todai shuttle bus’.

2.Resident Eligibility

(1) International students admitted or enrolled in GSFS
(2) Exchange students who belong to official GSFS student exchange programs
(3) International researchers who work at GSFS
(4) Japanese students enrolled in GSFS who agree to act as a resident assistant and provide the following support to non-Japanese residents.

*English skills above conversation level are necessary

(1)Participate in planning and implementation of regular meetings and events for residents
(2)Cooperate with ILO in offering support to other residents

There are university housing policies developed to support an environment of mutual respect in the housing facility. Residents are expected to follow the housing standards and encourage others to do the same. Residents are responsible for taking ownership in developing a safe, secure, and healthy living environment.

All rooms are for individual use only.

3.Room description and how to apply

Share house type

Each unit has 3 or 5 individual rooms, a kitchen, and two bathrooms. Each room has desk, chair, and bed. GSFS owns 13 rooms.

  • Rent
1. 55,000 yen/ monthly
    (Utility costs, water bill, and Internet fee are included)
     Should occupancy of university housing be less than one (1) full month, rent for that period shall be pro-rated on a per diem basis.
2. Resident must pay 6,500yen (excluding consumption tax) as a pre-payment to cover cleaning expenses incurred upon vacating the rented housing.
  • Period of Stay
1. Students: the standard period of academic study for the degree being pursued
    In principle; master students 2 years, doctoral students 3 years
    [cf.「東京大学大学院学則」(The University of Tokyo Regulations, Article 2 Item 5).
2. Researchers: contract period or three (3) years, whichever is shorter.
3. Residents are expected to occupy the residence space for the contracted period unless some unavoidable circumstances occur.
  •  How to Apply

Submit the application form (Attachment 1) by the deadline.

2.  Resident must pay 9,500 yen (excluding consumption tax) as a pre-payment to cover cleaning expenses incurred upon vacating the rented housing.
  • Period of stay

More than 7days and within 184 days

  •  How to apply

Submit the application form (Attachment 2) by the 1st of the month that is 2 months prior to the month you wish to move in.

  •  Decision

All submitted applications will be reviewed according to the GSFS regulations concerning eligibility mentioned in 2. ILO will notify each applicant of the result by e-mail, on or around the 15th of the month that the application was received.

4.Damage/Repairs

In the event of any damage to 1) the main structure part of the building, or 2) furniture, appliances, equipment, fixtures, or the like in the rented housing, kitchen area, and all other spaces of common use by residents, which is determined to have been the fault of the resident, the resident shall assume all financial responsibility thereto in accordance with university regulations.
