Procedures

1. Before applying to the Graduate School of Frontier Sciences International Liaison Office

If you belong to a partner school, first, please contact and consult the department in charge of exchange study at your university. Once you have received a recommendation from your university, you may start your application procedure with the University of Tokyo.

If you do not belong to a partner school, please contact the Graduate School of Frontier Sciences, International Liaison Office directly for details.

2. Application procedures to the Graduate School of Frontier Sciences

Application procedures differ with status. If you are not clear on your status, please contact the Graduate School of Frontier Sciences, International Liaison Office to find out.

Special Auditing Student Special Research Student
Applicant’s Sending University Graduate level students studying at partner universities Graduate level students studying at overseas universities, including partner universities

1. If you would like to study abroad as a Special Auditing Student

Please read the below guidelines carefully and complete your application before the deadline.

◆Special Auditing Student Application guidelines

For Spring Semester (April) enrollment: Please download from here from August 1st to November 1st of the prior year.

For Autumn Semester (September) enrollment: Please download from here from February 1st to May 1st of the same year.

◆ Application period

For Spring Semester (April) enrollment: November 1st
For Autumn Semester (September) enrollment: May 1st

◆ Documents required for application

*University designated application forms

For Spring Semester (April) enrollment: Please download from here from August 1st to November 1st of the prior year.

For Autumn Semester (September) enrollment: Please download from here from February 1st to May 1st of the same year.

*Transcripts of academic record certifying the grades of undergraduate course and master’s coursework
*Certificate of Registration
*Recommendation/Nomination letter issued by the Head of the sending graduate school
*Research plans

2. If you would like to study abroad as a Special Research Student

Please read the below guidelines carefully and complete your application before the deadline.

◆ Special Research Student Application guidelines

For Spring Semester (April) enrollment: August 1st to November 1st of the prior year, please download from here.

For Autumn Semester (September) enrollment: February 1st to May 1st of the same year, please download from here.

◆ Application Period

5 months before enrollment
For example, if you wish to start your research on June 1st, go over the application guidelines carefully, submit all the necessary paperwork to the Graduate School of Frontier Sciences, International Liaison Office by January 1st. Your Graduate School of Frontier Sciences faculty advisor must have been fixed before you file your application.

The Graduate School of Frontier Sciences will screen all applications submitted by the deadline. Successful applicants will be issued Certificates of Admission with the enrollment dates.
The Graduate School of Frontier Sciences, International Liaison Office will apply for your Certificate of Eligibility by proxy for those who requires visas to enter Japan.
